About Me

So who is The Dilnad?

Note: Big thanks to NerdFitness for telling my story better than I can!!

Yep. That's me and my glorious 326 pounds. It was somewhere between late 2011 and 2013. Not sure exactly when. I didn't change much in that time.

I woke up one day around November of 2013 and decided I was dying. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol. You know the drill. I'm sure you've known someone who crapped all over themselves for years. It was then I decided to make changes and I started walking 10k steps a day. I started eating a low fat low carb healthy (or so I thought) diet with whole grains and lots of chicken(deep fried naturally but hey, it was chicken). I lost a good amount of weight. Maybe around 50 pounds. All of a sudden I hit a wall, for months.

One day I was discussing it with my friend Dan and he mentioned strength training burns a ton of calories<light bulb>. I went home that night and I found this article from NerdFitness. I was up really late that night reading all the tabs I'd opened while I worked my way to the end of the article. The next day my life was changed. Paleo and strength training, that was my goal.

For the next 5 months I lifted, ate properly, and walked religiously. I had amazing results. One day, the owner of my local gym challenged me to run 30 seconds on the treadmill. I think I almost died I was so starved for air. I enjoyed it and a was telling a friend about it who challenged me to do it for 2 minutes. He was working on Couch to 5k. Well, the next day I started Couch to 5K myself. It was all over. The hook was set.

Here we are today. August 16th 2015 and I'm in the best shape of my life.

I'm stronger, healthier and much smaller (202 lbs this morning). All my ailments are gone and the only prescription medication I take is for allergies.

The running has stuck. Granted it's been a long road. Runners knee, bruised ribs and right now i'm dialing my distance back up from my knee surgery. My goal is to get back to 18mi/week in another couple weeks and then begin dialing my distance up again for my next goal. The 2015 Great Pumpkin 10k (already was up to past 10k distance) and then the 2016 Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon.

The Blog: It started rather recently. Just a place on the web to log workouts and my running telemetry. During my surgical recovery I seem to have had a lot of extra time and the ideas just started floating and this turned into a journey following the lessons learned, sarcastic and attempted humor of a fledgling runner(hey that's me) . It's still where I will house my data and on occasion, simple posts with my days activities will be here. In between, there may just be a tidbit or two of failed humor, successful sarcasm, dirty concepts, poor paragraph structure, and obvious conclusions I credit myself as being a genius for coming to.

Hope you enjoy...

    1. Congrats on the new distance. It's always an amazing feeling and well deserving of celebration. If you ever find your way to Louisville, look me up and we can go for a run!! I've been staying away from Yoga for a few weeks while a knee injury finishes healing up. Can't wait to get back to it next week!!

      Keep up the fight!!

  7. BTW, this is Marci. Nice blog, Mike! I finally had a few to check it out. I like how you still end up working out on your Rest Days LOL! I think we've finally hit that point where exercise is enjoyable and being lazy is just BORING!

Quick question, what is a bird dog? Okay two questions, what is One Legged Alphabet spell, just standing on one leg and balancing while reciting the alphabet?

    1. Yeah I pretty much do something every day unless I'm ridiculously sore. It's just easier that way inside joke).

I'll stop by your desk and demonstrate the bird dogs but the alphabet spell is standing on one leg while spelling the alphabet in the air with your other leg.

      Thanks for the visit!!!

Jason (The guy in the video and owner of Strengthrunning.com)is pretty much my running hero. I take most of my training from him. The only exercise I don't do is the Supine Bridge because it puts a lot of stress on the shoulders.

  9. Congrats on your success! I read the article on @nerdfitness and thought I would check out how you document your story. Who doesn't like a good story? I have been debating joining the community and have had a some success on my own. It sounds like a great site, community of people and a wealth of information. Maybe thats what I have been missing.

Any who Congrats again on your success and good luck on your first 10K!

Appreciate the kind words on the 10K. I just got home from it 20 minutes ago. My goal was to complete it running non stop and in under an hour. I did just that and finished in 58:04. Mini marathon is next!!

Thanks a bunch for visiting my blog and congratulations on the pending decision to level up your life. So worth it!!!
